Unlike voriconazole, another triazole antifungal medication, Isavuconazole doesn’t require any dose adjustments based on a patient’s hepatic function. Unlike fluconazole, which has very limited efficacy against aspergillosis, Isavuconazole is effective against both aspergillosis and mucormycosis. Isavuconazole has fewer side effects than amphotericin B, a polyene antifungal medication, and can be given orally, thereby reducing the need for hospitalization.

Administration and Dosage

Adults are given 372 mg of Isavuconazonium Sulfate via intravenous (IV) infusion over an hour once per day for six days, followed by a maintenance dosage of 372 mg once every other day via IV infusion. The total duration of treatment depends on the severity and nature of the infection, with some patients requiring several months of treatment.
